The statistics and images depicting the degraded lifestyles of some of the people in the Third World haunt us.  We often feel powerless to help... and guilty at times for being too comfortable. 

Hurricane Katrina brought "hell-like" conditions to the lives of many people.  Fortunately, the worst conditions were quickly addressed and in less than a month, most people had their basic needs taken care of.  Help came in from throughout America as all sought to assist in whatever way they could.  The devastation received world-wide attention, thanks to the continual coverage of the news media.

Unfortunately for many in the 3rd world, their devastation and "hell-like" conditions have lasted years and not just days or weeks.
